Abstract and often impossible motifs by Kris Neyt
Hello Kris, please introduce yourself
I’ve been making art for over 40 years and did a lot of styles, but ended up with my great love over and over again: The straight line in combination with depth and sometimes also with impossible perspectives. I am a skilled technical draughtsman and have always admired the drawings of machines from the 19th century. Bauhaus style paintings and buildings still appeal to me. Over the years I took lessons at the academy of architectural design. But it is above all my curiosity about the possibilities of straight lines and perspective that have defined my style.
What do you do and why?
I make paintings, drawings, assemblages etc. And why? Because I can. Out of love for the craft, to discover, to create.
How would you define your style?
My style is with almost always straight lines. With depth, false perspectives and a minimalist approach. The title and the imagination of the viewer make the artwork.
What are your goals from an artistic point of view?
The goal is to surprise the viewer. To make him think about what he sees. To let him discover what he sees, the small impediments, the possibilities of attention and to make him dream of what is not there.
What does being an artist mean to you?
It’s my main source of my life, reinventing myself every time it gives me energy.
Kris Neyt ★ Artist resume
After 40 years, I still want to surprise the viewer with an image that speaks to the imagination. If I could tell a story with a line, I would. But I haven’t found it yet.
Thanks a lot, Kris.
