Abstract minimalism by Not Bad Artwork
Please tell us something about yourself as an artist
I’m a self taught artist who’s always been excited and intrigued by contrast, colour and shape. One of my favourite artists and sources of inspiration is Ellsworth Kelly. I hope that during my artistic career I not only improve my painting skills but also the light in which I view the world around me as Kelly did; finding inspiration and beauty around me everyday.
What do you do and why?
I paint hard edge abstract contemporary art work because it is what I find most satisfying. I love photography as much as I like aIt’s always a battle to try to get the ideas out of my head and onto a canvas in a way that makes sense. When it works: pure satisfaction.
How would you define your style?
Throughout a lot of my work I think I hold onto the sense of energy, expansion, and radiance. I know “organic” might be the last word you choose to describe my work but it’s there in the concept I encourage people to look for it. The work that I enjoy making always gravitates towards the ideas of building from foundations, proportions and colours in a way that reflects those concepts.
What are your goals from an artistic point of view?
My goaI worries about trying to balance new techniques or approaches with a style that is generally consistent. Effectively I hope that I don’t get lost in my own ideas; just develop them and find clarity.
What does being an artist mean to you?
To be able to communicate and live. I think it’s safe to say the experience of any craft via curiosity makes you an artist; whether you like it or not.
Not Bad Artwork ★ Artist resume
I try to use contrast, proportions, shape, and colour to explore the concepts of growth, radiance and continuity in a way that makes sense and most of all looks good. One of my biggest inspirations is Ellsworth Kelly, and I hope that his essence comes through in my work while allowing me to express my own ideas. Please enjoy the thoughts and colours of my imagination.
Thank you very much!
