geometric abstraction:

As a form of abstract art, geometric abstraction is based on the occasional use of geometric shapes (in the sense that they are not mandatory even though the name might suggest) across a non-illusionistic space and blended into non-objective contents. Despite being popularized in the early 20th century by avant-garde artists, similar themes have been utilized in the air since then.

In 1918, Kazimir Malevich created his famed painting “White on White,” one of the most revolutionary artworks to date – it brought a paradigm shift into the world of art. To his surprise, the painting gave a new definition to the medium in rather abstract ways, setting in motion a wave of incorporating “perception” or “pure feeling” in pictorial arts.

Dare we even say it was more influential than “Black Square” of 1915! Today, the world recognizes these pieces as the standard of geometric abstract art; it’s impossible not to bring them up when discussing the movement or its impact on the contemporary landscape.

They were but only one portion of rich and diverse history. With the evolution of geometric abstraction, 20th-century art was growing to become one of the most influential artistic eras of all time, along with the movements which laid the foundation for its existence – Futurism and Cubism.

Geometric abstraction or geometric abstract art now highlighted a more significant form of expression – one that was meant to display the non-objective and non-representational through a paintbrush and canvas, sculpture, drawing, and architecture, among others.

Many artists explored geometric abstraction but a few of the most popular ones are François Morellet, Vera Molnar, Carloz Cruz Diez, Arièle Rozowy, and Brent Hallard.
