About Cristina Del Hoyo
Cristina Del Hoyo (Choyo) is a Spanish abstract painter based in Denver, CO. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University of Granada, Spain, in 2009. Her use of color and shapes in her art create a dreamy, ethereal world in which movement and freedom are at the core of it. Cristina’s vibrant compositions are also an invitation to reflect about existence, play and desire.
When did you get interested in art?
I have always been creative since I can remember and – when being a teenager – I realized I could use shapes and colors to express myself, the world opened up in a different way for me and I had never felt more free. In a sense, creating art is a need for me and a form of therapy. I also feel very connected to the rest of the world through my art so it gives me a sense of community and belonging.
What does style mean to you?
Two styles appear again and again in my work: A geometric, hard edged style and another one that is more fluid. Both art styles define me well as a person and as an artist. The use of color is very important in my work and define the different art collections I have. I tend to be very perfectionist in my hard edged paintings and I let myself go a little more out of control in my fluid painting. Movement is also an important component in my work and I usually look for dynamic compositions in my art.
Your most important goals?
I am currently represented by a gallery in Madrid and I have another representation in the making in Paris. I hope to keep being represented by International galleries and local ones. I also hope to continue doing commissions since I really enjoy that kind of work.
Can you share something philosophical?
My art philosophy is linked to mindfulness, therapy and spirituality. To me, my art is another way to discover myself and work on my personal growth. I believe in the transformative power of art for an individual and also for a society. I think art helps people discover who they are and is a channel for communicating deep and universal emotions that connect us with the rest of humankind.
Cristina’s closing words
I feel honored to be an artist and to be able to share my art with the world. I appreciate the amazing creative community out there and I hope that we keep inspiring each other to be the best people/artists we can be.
