Ditto Jones – Order through form and color
Good day, Ditto. Who are you?
Hi! I’m Ditto! I currently live in Chicago, Illinois and I love filling the world with shapes and colors.
How would you explain your art?
I would define my style as a ‘geometric mosaic’. All of these seemingly disconnected pieces come together into a sequence that ends up like a puzzle when choosing which colors should go where. I like that the possibilities of color combinations and patterns are endless and there are always discoveries to make.
Why do you appreciate geometric art?
The first reason is because I love working with paint pens and stencils. It creates depth amongst the world of shapes and it allows me to feel a sense of completeness when they’re finished. The second reason is because I have terrible vision, and I believe that simplifying the art to colors and shapes represents how I see the world without my glasses.
How long have you been making art?
I’ve been an artistic person my whole life, but this style of painting emerged from the lockdown of 2020. I find the simplicity of it very therapeutic to work on.
So, one could say you are still at the beginning of your journey?
A few steps past the beginning. I can see a long journey ahead of me so I better bring some snacks.
What kind of feedback did you get so far (if any)?
You tell me 😅
In what kind of setting do you like to work?
A quiet room with lots of natural light and a large surface area for supplies. Preferably a south-facing window for the most light throughout the day.
What would you like to accomplish in the future?
A large scale mural outside of the US. Being able to paint the side of a building, a hotel, a coffee shop, restaurant, or maybe a bar. Something that allows me to call myself a muralist.
Is there one of your own works that you particularly like?
I did a piece in March of 2021 called ‘Kids Own Kids Zone’ that made me look at all of my art differently. It was one of those moments where I thought ‘something about this one feels like more than just a hobby.’ It felt like a turning point in taking my art more seriously.
Thank you Ditto.
