Drew Steinbrecher’s fabric art
About you
I’ve enjoyed working with my hands and being creative from a young age. I have a university degree in graphic design and have worked professionally for 20 years. I currently live in Cincinnati, USA working as a graphic designer. I create art in my free time.
What media do you prefer?
I currently work in two mediums… fabric/quilts and monoprinting/gel plates. I love the hard edge that fabric creates and I enjoy the layers that I can create with monoprinting.
What environment fits you best for making art?
I have always felt more at home in the hustle, bustle and crowds of cities, even though I would call myself an introvert. Cities are controlled and regulated, yet they can be very chaotic and organic. Most cities are organized into “blocks”, yet within these containers there are chaotic and contrasting urban elements, such as power lines, graffiti, nature, crumbling concrete, walls with torn posters, billboards, nature, wealth, poverty… These dichotomies inspire my art.
Objectives
Serving the artist community by sharing my processes/tips, my thoughts concerning art and my art itself.
On ‘being an artist’
Making art and working with my hands is something that I feel compelled to do. I also enjoy seeing the life that other arts live and their art, as well as sharing my own experiences.
