Hi George, who are you?
I am an abstract artist who focuses mainly on hard edge painting of squares and rectangles with a simple, yet complex array of colours and sizes.
What do you do and why?
I started painting as a way to focus my mind when I was struggling with anxiety. I lost my job and was struggling to find anything to distract my mind from what seemed like the worst thing in the world. Painting enabled me to distract myself. It wasn’t until I started my instagram account some time later, that people started to give me amazing feedback and this spurred me on to try new things.
Let’s talk about your style
My style is simple yet complex. It’s a cheesy juxtaposition, I know, but on first glance it is just a square(s) but on further inspection each line has been precisely measured, each colour chosen to compliment or disrupt the ones next to it. I want my art to appeal to anybody, I want people to interpret them in their own way. It is not just my vision that counts but the vision of the audience.
Interesting. And what are you personal, artistic goals?
I want my art to be seen by as many people as possible and if I can therefore make some income off of it then that would be amazing. But mainly I want people to enjoy looking at my art, I want them to be able to find meaning in my work and if it can help others in the same way it has helped me then that would be fantastic.
What does being an artist mean to you?
Being an artist gives one a rare power to portray something for others to view, read, understand and interpret. I am just a tool to stimulate somebody’s mind or emotions and hopefully give visual pleasure.
