Hi Greg, what do you do?
I’ve been loving and making art for the majority of my life.
When did you get interested in art?
Since a child I’ve always preferred using my hands and building things.
Is the current corona pandemic affecting your work?
Since the pandemic invaded us I’ve been able to spend large chunks of time focused on my art. Probably the most time since graduate school almost 40 years ago.
Which art styles do you orientate yourself on?
I’ve always had references and reverences of art from all over space and times but currently I find myself looking at Europe of the early 20th century. I’ve always created in the abstract. I think it may be considered neo plasticism.
Why did your personal style develop the way it is?
Mainly because of my admiration of Bauhaus and De Stijl periods of art my own work borrows the geometries of this hard edge style.
How much time are you currently investing in your work?
Currently, I am devoted to my art full time 6 days a week. And when I’m not in the studio, I am thinking about my art and art in general.
A good advice for other artists
Regardless of success in exhibitions and sales – love what you do and do it the best you can. It’s my mantra to this day. It’s what keeps me going and sane.
Do you know what collectors or galleries say about your creations?
I wish I knew. I wish they were talking about my work.
What does your perfect work environment look like?
Duh. Any day in my studio is ideal.
Artists who inspire you?
I derive inspiration from all artists I admire.
What does your dream project look like?
A one person exhibition in a highly visible NYC gallery.
Would you do anything differently today?
Not a thing.
Are there places or things that motivate you?
Whenever I need motivation I’ll go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC.
Do you have a favorite piece of your own artwork?
Most always the latest piece I’ve made is my fave.
Would a collaboration with another artist be interesting to you?
I work alone and always have.
I have plenty of goals and have no idea how to achieve them other than perseverance.
Greg’s own statement
Currently Instagram is my show space. I use it solely for art and never for posting my meals, etc. Considering, I’ve been making art for 50 years and not making a living from it it’s surprising that I still love it so much. But I do.
