Q&A with hard edge painter Textured Art Studio
Hi! How did you start with hard edge art?
Hi, I’m Antonin, my artist name is Textured and I am the founder of Textured Art Studio. I’m French, I’m 27 years old and I live in Paris. I graduated as a computer engineer (developer) in 2016. As a developer at the beginning of my career I always had a soft spot for product design and sexy and efficient interface design. I am now a Product Owner (since 2018) with a strong appetite for graphic design, especially focused on user experience.
Until the beginning of 2020, i have primarly focused on the beginning of my professional career. I had never taken the time to put myself fully into my passion for graphic design. The first COVID lockdown in France in March 2020 was a trigger and allowed me to go all in on graphic design. I then opened an Instagram account on which I let my imagination run free around graphic creation centered around pop culture.
Very quickly, I wanted parallel to my graphic design activity, to experiment creations in the physical world. So, during the second lockdown in France (October 2020), I threw myself 100% into acrylic painting and I immediately fell in love with it. Not a day goes by since, without me painting, without me exploring new techniques, without me working on my style and my color palettes.
What does geometry mean to you?
I have always been a lover of geometry, of angular architectural graphics but also of the infinite power of colored harmonies, that is why I’ve began acrylic hard edge paintings end of 2020.
Please describe your style
Through thoughtful and original color palettes, I humbly try to give my artworks, very often made up of flat areas of color, a texture and a depth to make the whole as impactful as possible. In addition to hard edge painting, I also explore other techniques such as pouring, dripping and many others to create colorful and impactful artifacts that could complement any art collection.
What is your main artistic objective?
“Geometry is the essence of everything. Colour is the fundamental attribute of everything.” Convinced of colors’ power but also of geometric graphics purity, my primary objective as an artist is to create original artworks carrying a strong visual message accessible to all by the format as by the price.
Art philosophy
My philosophy in art is to let the observer make his own interpretation from an complete abstract artwork. I believe that abstract artworks are often more impactful than representative paintings because it allows, in my opinion, multiple interpretations according to the lived experience (past), the feeling (present) and potentially the projection that the observer makes of the artwork (future).
