Kyle Sorensen’s paintings sparkle like diamonds
About Kyle
Kyle is a Canadian artist working in central Ontario. Kyle works solely on exploring the possibilities of painting in a abstract contemporary form. Studying Visual Arts at York University (Toronto), Kyle received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) with distinction in painting in 2014. Kyle was also a “BMO 1st Art Award” Nominee in 2013, as nominated by his professors and peers during his time at York University.
Kyle’s motivation
Kyle works exclusively with acrylic medium and paints on cradled birch. Kyle has always been fascinated with the act of painting itself; transforming a unassuming raw surface into something uniquely generated from ones own mind. The process from start to finish is the joy that Kyle finds within the medium itself.
Artistic concept
Kyle works predominantly in geometric abstraction and strives to give life and form to the flat painting surface through various shapes and forms. There is a great deal of attention paid to each segment of the painting in order to appear as if there are no brush strokes at all.
His objectives
Kyle strives to bring life to each piece and simply engage the viewer to see what they choose to see in each piece. Even if a negative or uncomfortable reaction is revealed, the piece has done its work in evoking some type of reaction from the viewer.
Beliefs
Kyle believes that art should be enjoyed by those who wish to have it; therefore, by using quality artist-grade materials from local suppliers Kyle strives to make his work both accessible and affordable.
