Majestic murals by Qbik
Hi! Who are you?
My name is Max Mcilwee, but i go by Qbik in the finger painting world.
Why and what
I have been painting ever since I was a child. My father being an art and photography teacher helped fuel the passion of paint filled fingertips at a young age. My love for spray paint started around middle school where I would steal my parents paint and try to beautify the streets with color. As I got older and a few of my friends were getting arrested for graffiti, I decided to take another path and applied for schools to study architecture.
Architecture in my mind has always been abstract three dimensional art pieces that people inhabit, so it was a perfect fit. The discipline and work ethic from school helped me transition my art to where it is now, and I will be for ever grateful for everyone that has helped me along the way. I am a true believer that “rising tides lift all boats” and seek to lift all artists up together.
Style
My end visual style has evolved many times over the years but always included an aspect or a play on dimension. Whether it be physically dimensional or playing tricks on your eyes, I push the boundaries into the perceived third dimension as much as possible.
Goals
My goals have always been to learn. Whether it be new techniques / styles or learn how to paint at new scales I never thought was possible. Always learning keeps my mind sharp.
Philosophy
Don’t let money influence your style. Do what you love and the money will come later. Or maybe it wont but at least you had fun, haha.
