Hello Matia, please introduce youself
I have been painitng for about 15 years, it has never been a way of making a living but more of a passion. I never give myself a time frame and I always paint freely, sometimes a picture could take me a few days other times over a month. Also, i have never painted to sell my artworks, but becuase I simply wanted to. I spent the last 15 years in London working as a manager and always had this hobby on the side. Recently, i just moved to Italy, where I want to concentrate a little bit more on my art.
What’s your current situation concerning art?
Passion is my motivation. I feel this is a great way for me to express my feelings and my point of views on things. I get inspired by music, films, landscapes, colours in general, clothes and lots of other things. Thats because i am the kind of person who does things when I feel like it. For example, If i was to have a day off and having spare time, I would paint only if i feel inspired or if i want to.
Since lockdown i had the opportunity to do this on a daily basis pretty much as I was locked indoors alone for three months, and this pushed me to try and do something a bit more intense with my artwork, trying to turn this into a living rather than “just” a passion. I am still at the first step, this is one of the reasons why I decided to move back to Italy.
How do you define your personal style?
Most of the time i come out with an idea and then i note it down. It could be in the middle of the night or during the day, and eventually, when I have enough time, i’ll put it onto a canvas. The rough idea could be a bunch of colours, some shapes, how to organize the picture, etc. I get inspired by music, modern and contemprary art and even by renaissance art or films. My mind turns them into shapes and colours. Inspiration is only a very vague concept, I always strive to be very unique and make sure that when people look at my art, they can get something from it and they can tell who the Artist is. It’s some sort of trademark.
Please define your artistic goals
I would love to turn this passion into a living, be able to have requests of commissions and have my works in galleries and houses on display.
What means ‘being an artist’ to you?
To be free to do what you want without boundaries. You’re no longer an artist but a sellout machine the moment you start painting just because you want to make money. That’s why i loved to paint in the past 15 years: because i never had the objective to sell or put it in a gallery. I always felt like i was only painting for myself and for no one else. So i never shared my art with anybody, only recently when i set up my Instagram page few months ago.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I think i said enough, thank you for your interest.
Matia Santini ★ Artist resume
My name is Matia, I was born and raised in Camerano, Italy. I spent the last 15 years of my life in Wimbledon, London. Art has always been a great passion of mine. Painting is a space that let me cut out from reality and relax, I can isolate myself from the world, listen to music and express my feelings. The inspiration comes to me in the most varied moments: in the middle of the night, or while I’m driving out of town, something attracts my attention, I sketch my ideas and then they become alive on a canvas.
With the brush and acrylics I translate those ideas that buzz around my head into shapes and colours, inspired by films, songs, landscapes, words, objects and dreams. My favourite part of my creative process is when those shapes and colours turn into emotions, depending on the eye of the beholder. My art reflect my passions and most of the times I let my artworks introduce myself. I defined my style Chaos/Order Caos/Ordinato. Every single Opera has been taken care to the last detail.
Thank you Matia.
