New York based hard edge painter Larry Bentley
Your artistic background
I’m a self-taught artist whose work is mainly focused on Hard Edge Painting, Color Field and Geometric Abstraction Art, with an emphasis on clean lines, varying shapes and color combinations, in the use of acrylic paints.
Where did your interest in painting come from?
My inspirations derive from experiences working in the fashion and modeling industry as well as being surrounded by an abundance of art while working at The Metropolitan Museum of Art and at Sothebys Auction House.
Which artists did influence you?
I’m greatly influenced by all things Mid-Century Modern, especially by the prominent artists of that era and of the simplistic ethos and aesthetics exhibited during that time.
Your goals
My goal is to share my artistry with the world. If there’s one thing this world needs, it’s more beauty.
Philosophy
There’s no “high-brow” meaning or philosophy to my art. To quote the great Frank Stella: “What you see is what you see”.
Larry’s motto
If you can, color it!
Larry Bentley ★ Artist resume
I first picked up a brush and put paint to a canvas during our “shelter in place” mandate while at home in New York City. I’ve always had a yearning to paint and this was the impetus to do so.
Thank you very much, Larry.
