Non-objective art by Cheryl Hayman
Hello Cheryl, please introduce yourself to us
I am a professional video editor attempting the transition into working artist. I am married, have 2 children and live in the suburbs of Boston, MA.
What are you currently working on?
I am a multimedia artist currently working mostly in acrylic on canvas. My non-objective, geometric paintings are about color relationships using both fully mixed mediums and partially mixed mediums. Many of my paintings are about the place between accident and intention; plans versus outcome. I also try and emphasize the human element of art making by not fixing perceived imperfections.
Where would you classify your style?
My style is mostly hard edge or hard edge adjacent geometric. I use many circles and squares in my designs. Color and color relationships are also a large part of my work.
What are your current wishes as an artist?
I would like my work to have a wider audience. I think it’s valuable and original and deserves to be seen.
What is your idea of art?
My idea of art is that it is a process of problem solving. Sometimes it’s an external question, sometimes an internal. Many times the question doesn’t get answered, and sometimes it’s answered in several different ways.
Your closing words?
Art doesn’t necessarily need to be a picture of something. Sometimes color, line, scale and juxtaposition can illicit contemplation just was well.
