Shana Danon’s vibrant paintings
Hey Shana, please introduce yourself
Hello! I’m Shana, an artist and surface designer from Sydney. Having grown up in a family of artists and creatives, art has always been a passion and a calling. Returning to study Colour + Design at 43 encouraged me to pursue my dream of a professional art career. Emilio Frank Design was established in 2015, the studio named in honour of my grandfathers Emil + Frank.
Where do you get your inspiration from and what are the steps when creating art?
A passion for Mid Century Design inspires my work. I’ve always been drawn to vibrant block colours, the simplicity of form and geometric lines. My works intends to create happy, positive spaces and evoke joyful memories, a story that starts with me and continues with the collector.
My process is to start with pencil drawings and sketches, then paint with acrylics for canvas or wood, adding mixed media or digital elements for print and pattern, I enjoy the challenge of creating art for a variety of surfaces – such as textiles, jewellery, stationery and homewares.
What can you tell us about your style?
My artworks are known for bold emotive colour and vibrant modernist style. Indigo line works are either monochrome or offer a variety of colourful palettes, celebrating form, function and whimsy. Geometric abstract accents of yellow and metallic copper, organic line and bold shapes are used to reference the past with a contemporary twist. ‘Circles and arches’ paintings often feature themes of local Sydney, moonscapes and nature.
Artistic objectives
My goals are to keep developing my craft, learning and creating every day. I enjoy collaborating with like minded creatives and look forward to building my creative community. It’s an honour to witness when a collector connects with an artwork and my goal is to keep creating artworks that evoke happiness and joy.
Shana’s way of life
Live colourfully and creatively!
Final statement
Art allows me to express myself, I can’t imagine my life without it! I look forward to being part of this creative community.
Thank you David for the opportunity.
