Hey Antoine! Please tell us who you are
I am a painter from Montreal. Shapes, lines, edges and colors. I work and explore the mediums and the techniques of abstraction. I paint or draw almost every day.
When and why did you start making art?
Since I can remember, drawing was a way for me to connect with others and understand the world.
Where do you see yourself right now on your artistic path?
In general, my goal is to reach as many people as possible and demonstrate that art is really something universal and has the power of giving a sense of community, especially with my experience as a muralist and collaborations with schools or other artists.
How would you define your style and what do you like best about it?
Geometric abstraction allows me to explore the possibilities of composition and to find my own way to achieve a painting. I like to combine hard edge with drips or pencil marks that bring a sense of workmanship. I like that people see my work and tell themselves : “Oh, it’s seems like fun to paint straight lines, I would like to try as well…”.
Why hard edge art?
Geometric abstraction or hard edge is very straight forward. We immediately understand the intention, because it is all about shapes and colors. Also, it needs a lot of precision and time. Some colors can be changed three or four times in the process until it’s the right one.
Are you working full time as an artist?
I have another job that allow sme to keep a distance and actually being more productive in my art and doing other projects like murals or prints. I used to be in art galleries but sometimes the pressure of painting full time was a struggle to stay creative and passionate.
