Trev El. Viz: From the streets to the studio
How did it all start?
I make art under the name Trev El. Viz. I’m an Irish artist originally from Dublin, now residing in Berlin, Germany. I started in the street art scene. Pasting and slapping stickers. When I discovered spray paint it opened up a new world. My style taking on many aspects of hard edge originates from painting large pieces in the street. I’ve since moved on to more studio work in recent years, but always paint walls whenever the opportunity arises.
What is your favorite medium?
I work mainly on canvas and digital. I use both disciplines to ultimately create my style and work. I use the long tedious process of creating a hard edge style piece as type of meditation / therapy to slow down my ADHD and Bipolar chaotic thought process.
Describe your style
Lowbrow meets hard edge / post painterly abstraction. Bold, bright and clearly defined colour and shape. Structure and purposeful marks.
What’s up next?
Explore more personal subjects and dig a little deeper into my own fears and explore it in my work. Keep pushing the hard edge style. Cleaner and more clinical. Remove all evidence of the artist hand from the physical work. Work with bigger physical objects and installations.
Your art philosophy?
Take the chaos of life, the uncertainty, fear, anxiety and lack of control we allow feel, mental or physical, and filter it through my lens, give it order and structure in the work I produce.
Final statement
Create the work that makes you happy. Turn your back on the ‘rules’. Individuals who are willing to support you and give you their hard earned cash for you work, do so because they believe in what you’re producing. Those people are more important than your artistic peers.
Artist resume
