Visit the Museum für Konkrete Kunst in Ingolstadt, Germany
Hello Dr. Theres Rohde (museum director), please tell us something about the museum
The Museum für Konkrete Kunst in Ingolstadt (Museum for Concrete Art) is the only museum in Germany specialising in Concrete Art only. There are different other museums in Germany with a collection of Concrete Art as well. However, no other institution in Germany focuses that strong on Concrete Art in all its appearances.
How and why did the museum specialize in Konkrete Kunst?
In 1981 the city of Ingolstadt bought Eugen Gomringer‘s collection with the support of sponsors and donations from the citizens of Ingolstadt. The Museum für Konkrete Kunst opened in 1992. It has a wide collection from the beginning of the art movement till works from today. We show exhibitions with works from our own collection and loan collections as well. We are currently planning a new building for the museum. The exhibition area will be five times as large as in the current museum.
Do you only exhibit the works of famous artists and who are your exhibitions aimed at?
For us it is important to reach the people. No one has to be a specialist in Concrete Art. We don’t focus only on experts. We want to create exhibitions that are interesting for everybody and people of all ages. Locals are invited to come to our museum and people from different cities and countries as well.
How does the Museum für Konkrete Kunst in Ingolstadt find new artists?
We find them via other museums, galleries, fairs, studio visits, recommendations and Instagram posts.
What shows are currently planned?
Hängepartie. Kunst mit offenem Ende. The opening is on January 15th, 2022.
Many thanks for the Q&A, Dr. Rohde.
